Here is another highlight from, IIEST Shibpur (formerly BEC/BESU)! Established in 1856, it proudly stands as the second-oldest engineering college in India.
In a recent event, IIEST alumni networking project team had the honor of hosting a distinguished alumnus who shared his inspiring journey from IIEST Shibpur to MIT for a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering. This webinar series aims to motivate current students to dream big and pursue higher studies abroad in top-tier institutions. Dr. Arijit Banerjee, representing the class of 2005, recounted his fascinating journey from Shibpur to MIT and then to UIUC as a faculty member.
Furthermore, we're celebrating the achievements of several recent female graduates of IIEST Shibpur who have embarked on their MS/Ph.D. programs in engineering at prestigious institutions such as MIT, Stanford, Berkeley, and others. Shreya Sharma, 2018AE (MIT), Shubheccha Paul, 2021ME(Stanford) and Rajyasri Roy, 2022 CE (Berkeley) shared their experiences at their respective universities.
These compelling stories go beyond our current IIEST students, seeking to inspire more female students to pursue Ph.D. programs in engineering at highly competitive institutions worldwide. Recognizing the challenges women may face in STEM fields, we aspire for these narratives to motivate students not only within IIEST but also across West Bengal, India, and beyond.
